Car Repair Tools
Virtually, there is a tool for almost anything. Nevertheless, your car does not need just about any tool you can place your hands on. A close estimate would be: 75 percent of automotive repairs can be done with 10 percent of available tools. Thus, as a car owner or mechanic, you really need to know the tool required for each task, what it does, how to operate it, where you can buy it, etc. Here are some basic tools for automotive repair.
1. Gasket scraper - when you replace gaskets, you need to properly clean the area first.
2. Spring compressor - use this to remove coil springs when you repair your suspension.
3. 2- and 3-Jaw puller - if you are to press parts of your car, you will need massive amounts of force. But, a puller will help you do the job.
4. Breaker bar - use this to loosen very tight nuts and bolts.
5. Oil filter wrench (slip type) - this should be in handy when you do oil change.
6. Ratchets and sockets - a ratchet is a wrench with interchangeable ends called sockets that fit almost any bolt size.
7. Adjustable wrench - this is an open-ended wrench with nearly infinite sizing.
8. Line wrench - use this to work with any type of fitting that is in-line like a brake line, fuel line, or car cable.
If you are to give a car owner some present, anything useful for the vehicle would be ideal. You could give that person a roadside emergency kit, open-end wrench set, screwdriver set, fluorescent work light, mechanic tool box, creeper, torque wrench, code scanner, hex wrench set, and ratchet/socket set.
