Time to Choose the Christmas Cards
Around a month before Christmas there comes a day everyone dreads. It’s the day when you have to decide what type of cards you are going to send that year. Should it be traditional, with snippets of carols and nativity scenes? Should it be cute, with penguins wearing hats and scarves and playing in the snow? Or should it be contemporary, with a single glittery star? Should the verse be a twee little poem or a simple “Merry Christmas”? As soon as the topic is mentioned, it is amazing how quickly there is a DIY emergency in the house, requiring the alpha male to run off to the shed looking for his drill bits.
This year, you could simply order your christmas cards from the internet, making sure your picture matches your verse and your new address is printed on it too. Unless of course the expedition to the shed brought to light a frightening lack of manly power tools and you have to fight for control of the computer before your spare bedroom is filled with circular saws, adjustable wrenches and an angle grinder. On the up side, you could end up with the exposed wooden floorboards you’d been asking for since 1992 and the tap that’s been leaking for as long as you can remember could finally get fixed. In fact, the only tool you’ll still need is the one that licks all the envelopes, and he’s in the shed.
